My Cottage Gardens ~ Cottage Garden Party

Back Yard

It's been a HOT one this summer!
These are  pictures of my "side yard".
The heat is taking it's tole on my gardens.  I have to water constantly.
It's so hot that I can only work outside early in the morning and late in the evening.
My beautiful flowers aren't looking as good as they usually do.  LOL!  The weeds are still growing like wild fire.
My "Rose of Sharon" bush and my "Butterfly" bush seem to like the heat.  They are both in full bloom.  I will share pictures of them at the next Garden Party.
My hydrangea's aren't looking so good..... no blooms!  I may need to move them to a shadier spot.
They say these HOT summers may become the norm.
I might have to move north or maybe to Seattle (Tracie).
My dad built the wooden trellis and my husband made the birdhouses.  He makes them from scrap wood, tin and misc parts (like old door knobs) and I paint them.  Some of the stands were made from left over spindles and some from fence posts.
Those posts you see sticking up.....  had birdhouses on them but are down for repair.

Your garden is very neat and pretty even with the heat. We are quite cold here. I know how uncomfortable it can be when too hot, as we had dreadful heat last summer. I try not to complain about the cold because of it,but i'm cold. :)

Your side garden is very pretty! We are hot and very dry in IL also. I feel like I am watering enough just to keep them a live. I hope this will not be coming the norm, or I will have to move to!

What a beautiful cottage garden you have--cottage garden is my style, too. I particularly like the interplay of the stones in the last picture--very striking. Take care, and have a lovely weekend--try to stay cool. If I could could send you some cool from the Pacific Northwest where I live, I would!

My garden took a hard hit this week also with temps hitting the high 90's. I'm looking forward to lower temps next week!
