Lavendar and Old Lace

Home for the Holidays!

I am busy getting my home ready for the holidays.
My daughter and her boyfriend are coming for Christmas.  I wanted to freshen up my guest room.  Simplifying things but sill making it very comfortable.  I wanted to create a cozy atmosphere.  A place to relax and linger.  I love the smells during the holidays.  Like cinnamon and cookies baking.  I decided to use lavender in the bedroom.  I took some old pillow ticking and made a medium size pillow.  I added several cups of fresh lavender to the stuffing.  The pillow slip is made from vintage damask and trimmed with old lace.  The room is not only pretty but smells heavenly, too.

Coming up ROSES......

Everyone knows by now that I LOVE roses.  In my home....  more is more.  I am forever moving things around..... usually because I have a new vintage piece that I have to find a home for.  As was the case with this little clock.  Thought it was pretty enough to share.

Faded Blooms.....

I took a walk around my gardens this morning.  Everything has withered and the seed pods are ready to harvest.  Most of the leaves have fallen from the trees and the air is chilly.  I am always very sad to see winter come.  These and the marigold's are all that still bloom.  I have already cut back everything except those plants that self seed.  Winter marks the end of another year.  Until spring....  my precious beauties.

Winter Wedding

From time to time I like to re-decorate my crafts studio.  It's getting cold and dark outside earlier now (I hate daylight savings time!).  So.....  I decided to brighten things up by bringing in the whites.  I am a long time collector of vintage wedding dresses, veils, head pieces, tiaras and wedding cake toppers.  I just love them.  For the most part I keep them stored away.  When I get them out and start going through things I am always amazed.  I forget sometimes what I have and it's like Christmas..... boxes and tissue paper everywhere.  I re-dressed my mannequins, dress forms and busts in vintage wedding apparel.  I decided to group the wedding cake toppers together.  What a pretty display.  I have a few framed antique wedding certificates that I hung as artwork.  I'm not done yet but will share pic's when I am finished.

Barbola Roses & Swags

My newest find.....  a 1930's Barbola mirrored shelf.  It is gorgeous!
A rare find....  at least in this area.   I couldn't believe the condition.....  mint!  No chips or cracks.
The roses and swags are all hand painted. There is a bit of loss to the mirror which adds to the vintage beauty.  I have an extensive collection of old millinery flowers and added a few to the shelves.
It's so pretty.  I can't stop looking at it.  Merry Christmas... to me!

Vintage chintz..... porcelain roses..... and a bit of French whimsy....

Vintage Chintz Drapes

It's getting cold outside so it's time to re-hang the heavy drapes.  I found a pair of gorgeous chintz barkcloth drapes some time ago at a local flea market for $35.  My hubby helped me hang them this weekend.
Fabulous!  A perfect fit.
With that done.....  the little nook beside the sofa needed a makeover.  I went shopping in my basement and this is what I came up with.  I collect Murano glass mirrors, porcelain roses (of course), vintage rhinestone clocks and old wedding toppers.  It came together beautifully.  I purchased the Marie Antoinette lamp at my favorite antiques store "The White Rabbit" a couple of months ago.  She needed a special place to reign.  She now sits atop a pink antique needle point stool I found over the summer.
Picture perfect.

Holiday Sparkle!

I purchased this large antique French Empire Dome Shade on Etsy a few months ago.  It is so elegant and sparkles in the light.  I was looking for the perfect holiday centerpiece and couldn't find anything I liked.  Then it hit me....  turn this upside down and use it as a bowl.  I filled it with some of my favorite vintage Christmas balls and mercury glass ornaments.  I will eventually use it as a light fixture but for now it looks wonderful on my table.
