A White Winter ~ Baby... it's cold outside!

Snow Blizzard

Have you ever wished you were somewhere else?
Well, today's that day!
It's freezing cold with record snow falls.
We've been blasted over and over again.  We barely dig out and here it comes again!
We are used to snow.....  but, I have never seen anything like this and I've lived here all my life.
Last week we got 17" and only a few days later another 21".
The snow is so deep it completely covered the steps to my shed porch and the double doors wouldn't open.  It's as high as the skirt on the deck (five steps high)!  My husband had to shovel a path for the dog;.  LOL!  He would have disappeared.  The snow would have swallowed him.
Everything is shut down..... local businesses, the post office and the air port.  Thousands of people are without power.  We are lucky.....  our power has been restored.  The sheer weight of the snow has caused roofs to cave and there are tree limbs down everywhere.
There is a silver lining.........  it will help us recover from the drought we had last summer.  Spring flowers and green grass are just around the corner.
I can't wait till SPRING!
Brrrrr!
Hope everyone is safe and toasty.

A Study of Violets ~ Thoughts of Spring

A Study Of Violets ~ by Mary E. Hart

I can hardly wait till Spring!
It's still very cold here.  Freezing rain yesterday and even though it's sunny today.....  it's still only 27 degrees.  We are supposed to get 10 inches of snow by Thursday!  Ugggg!  So no spring blooms.
Thank you, bloggers........  who live where it's warm for sharing your beautiful flowers with us.  It's very inspiring and gives the rest of us something to look forward to.
Until the weather warms up and I can spend time in the garden........  I'm spring cleaning and re-decorating.
Bringing out the whites and pastels.
I have several yard long prints and this is one of my favorites.  I think it evokes Spring.  I love the pretty pastels.......  pinks, purples and greens.

Hope all you lovelies have a wonderful week!
Elizabeth

P.S.  We got almost 14" inches of snow today!!

Cherub Love and a little R&R

A little R&R

On occasion everyone needs a little R&R.
I love to curl up with one of my favorite decorating books and just relax.
I needed a one drink, one book table.
So off to the basement to see what I could come up with.
I used an old pedestal with "raised" roses and swags for the base.  The top of the pedestal was a little rough so I covered it with a vintage dresser scarf.  For the top......  I used a vintage hand painted tray.
Hmmmmm........  now I had a table but no light.  So again..... off to the basement.
I purchased this lamp on Etsy from Stacy's Shabby Shoppe some time ago.  It was the perfect size.  I love the darling cherub, the alabaster base and the glass crystals but had intended to replace the shade.  I decided to keep the simple skirt shade and dress it up.  I added some old millinery flowers (pink roses and a velvet bow) off an old hat.

It's the "perfect" little space........  just for me.

Be Mine ~ Happy Valentine's Day!

 Be My Valentine

These are my favorite Valentine's Day candy boxes.
A wonderful flea market find.
I was instantly smitten!  I fell in love with the velvet ribbons and millinery flowers.  The flowers are tattered and the foiled edges have tarnished..... just adding to their character.  Both are dated 1909.
If they weren't beautiful enough on the outside...........  when I opened them I got a wonderful surprise!  Old crepe paper ruffles!! that frame a vintage Valentine.  Toooooo sweet!
I use them to store both old and new Valentine's Day cards.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love's Wishes ~ A Token of Affection

 A Token of Affection

Valentine's Day is a day for love and romance.
A day to show those closest to you how special they are.
I like to give little gifts to my family and friends.  For me....  the packaging is as important as the gift itself.  I used old candy boxes and tins..... embellished with vintage ribbons, lace and millinery flowers.....  topped with vintage Valentines's Day cards.
These Valentine's Day cards are very old.... dated 1910.  I love the poems and the graphics are stunning!  I especially like the ones that were previously given and have hand written sentiments.
