A Bit of Spring - Happy Easter Wreath

Happy Easter Wreath

Is it Spring......  yet????

We had a few really nice days last week where it got up into the 60's.  I thought for sure Spring had arrived.
I got busy sprucing up the house and made a few "spring" projects....  like this Easter wreath.
Yesterday was a beautiful day.  Sunny and a bit crisp.
Today?  I can't believe it!  It's freezing....  and SNOWING!!!  It's coming down like crazy.
I took a walk around the garden yesterday and saw lots of new growth peeking out.  I'm so glad I didn't uncover the little sprouts.
The weather has "teased" us several times this year.
I can hardly wait for warm sunny weather!

Vintage Gilt - Lamp Make Over

Cherub Lamp Make Over

In my previous post I mentioned that I went on a day trip last week....  to my local flea market.  I found lots of goodies.  Some of which would have to be repaired or re-purposed.
One of my finds was this vintage cherub lamp base.  It was in poor condition and the wiring was shot.  I loved the cherub base and knew I could do something wonderful with it.  I originally intended to restore it to a working lamp.
As with most things.....  they sit around for a while before I decide what to do with them.  The cherub needed to be cleaned so I sat it on the kitchen counter.  In the mean time.....  a dear friend of mine gave me a bag of home made rose potpouri.  She makes it herself and it smells divine.
I wanted something wonderful to hold the potpouri..... and that's when I hit on the idea to turn my cherub lamp into a vase.  I started by removing all the electrical parts.  I used some misc lamp parts and a glass globe from an old light fixture.   Screwed them all together and voila!.... trash to treasure!  I added some vintage lace and an antique rhinestone fur clip.
I LOVE how it turned out.

Have a lovely week.

Hand Painted Roses - Altered Art Project

Shabby Chic Bud  Vase

Last week was beautiful.  Sunny and in the 60's!
After a long and snowy winter and being cooped up for weeks....  it seems....  I decided to take advantage of the good weather and take a day trip.  Of course.... I ended up at our local flea market.  I found lots of great stuff and will be sharing some of my finds and altered projects.
I found a bunch of bottles for $1 to $2 each depending on size.  I bought several.
My darling husband brings me roses quite often.  Sometimes a bouquet and sometimes singles.  I have lots of beautiful vases for the bouquets but never have anything for a single rose.  This bottle is the perfect height for a long stem rose.
Not much on it's own.....  I decided to paint it.  I painted pink roses all the way around.  It was pretty but it needed something more.  I took sand paper and lightly distressed the roses to give it an "aged effect.  Then got out my bits and pieces box and went to work....  adding layers of hand dyed laces, hand made roses, scrunched ribbons, glitter and paper flowers.
Now I LOVE it!
Because this one turned out so pretty.... I think a grouping would be lovely.  I'm planning to make at least two more in graduated sizes.  Sharing when I get them done.
Now my hubby needs to bring me roses!

Have a wonderful week!
Blessings.

Vintage Embroidery, Smocking and Lace

Vintage Pillows

I am addicted to vintage pillows and have an extensive collection.
I have some that date back to the 1800's and some as recent as the 1950's.
I just found the big fluffy round one.  It's so big and cushy.
I absolutely LOVE it!
I adore vintage embroidery........  and the smocking is to die for.  If that's not enough.....  it has an outer row of  3 inch lace all the way around.
Quite scrumptious!

I love Southern Belle's.
I have dresser scarves, pillows, sheets and pillow cases with the cutest embroidered Southern Belle's.  I made the Southern Belle pillow from an old damaged pillow case.  There was only one....  not a pair....  so this seemed the best way to salvage the embroidery.
I love it.

Wishing all you lovelies a wonderful week!
