Fashion Cents - 1950's Make Over

Altered 1950's Black Velvet Bag

When I found this 1950's black velvet bag I thought it was beautiful "as is"..... but, knew I could make it "fabulous"! ...and for $22 I couldn't pass it up.
I also picked up some creamy white millinery flowers (an old hat), a few brass charms, some old rhinestone buttons and some black lace.
I knew before I left the store that I was going to add the millinery rose but had no idea I would end up using  the other pieces, too.
When I got it home....  on closer inspection.....  it had some issues.  I needed to make some alterations if I intended to "use" the purse.
I covered up some of the flaws with the brass charms.  I wanted the millinery rose to be the focal point but it had issues as well.  While the rose was in perfect "vintage" condition the leaves were falling apart and an ugly lime green.  So.....  I cut leaves from the black lace and "covered" the original leaves.  An "over lay" effect. Now they look wonderful!  The bits of green slightly peeking through the lace (I tried to catch that in the 4tyh photo).
With the remaining lace....  I made some little flowers and used the rhinestone buttons as centers.
I glued the remaining button to the center of  the leaf charm and added a lace tie to the handle.
Now it is truely "fabulous"!
I love it!
Oh!  and did I mention.......  it has a gorgeous pink satin lining!!

The bag was nice as you found it, but you turned it into a real piece of art.

Great job. (I think the rose looks like a gardenia) I love finding your post at Pink Saturday - always one of my favorites!
