Crafts Studio ~ Pretty Organization

I don't know about you.... but, I have a hard time being creative or productive when everything is a mess.  I hate it when I can't find what I need or my work surface is cluttered.  I needed to get organized.  Contain all those little bits and bobs.  All the buttons, lace, ribbon, twine, etc.  

I wanted cheap.... but, pretty storage.  I love shabby chic and roses..... so, these were perfect.  You can make your own:....  using various empty jars, craft paint and Avery label paper.

Thyme to Garden ~ Potting Table and Herb Garden

Herb Gardening

It has been the hottest summer on record.....  since the 1930's.

Gardening was tough going this year.

I've always wanted to have an herb garden.  I cook a lot and use lots of veggies and fresh herbs.  I decided to start my own herb garden.  I planted most of them in pots.  

For the most part.....  they did well.  

I planted several common herbs.... basil, sage, parsley and dill.

A friend of mine gave me a few "mint" plants.  They grew very well in both the garden and planters.  The tiny blooms are so pretty and when you pinch off a bit the smell is wonderful!

I shared the potting shed my hubby built a few posts ago.  I was finally able to get a good picture of the hand stenciled doors.  I painted and hung lattice as a back drop for the shelving.  I was able to display my collection of vintage planters and other garden themed antiques.  Underneath (behind my pretty hand painted doors) I'm able to store away unused pots, potting soil, tools. etc.  Everything is neat and organized.

I adore these dresses and get so excited when I find another one.

This one is is very special.  I has waterfall ruffles down each side and covered buttons all down the back.

The ruffles and hem are trimmed in 2" pale pink lace.  The skirt is so full and flowing.

It was hand made.  It's amazing.....  each covered button and the miles of tulle and lace.  Imagine all the work that went into this one dress.  A work of art!

They are so beautiful....  no wonder so many were saved.

I am happy to own it and hopefully someday pass it on to someone else who will love it, too.

Hand painted "Welcome" & pretty Birdhouses

Can you believe it's already the first week of August!!
Summer has flown by!
It's been very HOT!  I usually enjoy gardening but, this year... not so much.
My gardens didn't do very well and the grass suffered even more.  The shaded areas and potted plants did okay.  Thank goodness for the hardy plants like Hostas and Hens & Chicks.
It's been so hot and dry that the birds have been hiding out.  I noticed more birds taking refuge inside my birdhouses.  I love birdhouses!  They look great in the garden and are functional, too.
I painted the birdhouses and "Welcome" sign.  My husband made the shelf from left over fence pickets.  I made the rose wreath (hanging under the shelf) with left overs from previous projects.
I've been keeping the birdbaths full of water, too..... for the birds and the squirrels.
I am usually very sad to see summer come to an end.  This year.....  I can hardly wait for Fall.  Hopefully things will cool down and recover.
